About the Event
Music Bridges Borders Presents
A Free Family Concert
in cooperation with
The Bonner County Human Rights Task Force
Saturday, July 27 at 6:00 pm
at the Community Presbyterian Church in Sandpoint
Youth concert musicians from the community orchestras of Baja, North Mexico, will perform a this concert. They will be accompanied by local guest musicians Christopher Anderson from Spokane Youth Symphony, Carys Perilloux, Bella Noté Music Studio in Sandpoint, and Max Reed, Sandpoint violinist. Instrumentation includes clarinet, trombone, violin, bass, cello, percussion, tuba, trumpet, and oboe. Most pieces will include piano accompaniment by Debbie Willford, and all are a joy to listen to.
Students will then group up to play two ensemble pieces including Mexican Overture (potpourri) and Alas (a Malala) translated as Wings to Malala, composed by Arturo Marquez.
This special piece was selected because the Mexican symphonic community feels that the piece gives wings to Malala's message and mission through music.
Following the concert, attendees will be offered the opportunity interact with musicians and to enjoy locally made churros, a delightful Mexican cinnamony treat.
Two days following this presentation, the musicians from Mexico will present a free youth music camp as instructors for 50 children of the Sandpoint community. This is an amazing opportunity for local youth to have an immersive educational and cultural experience!
